Hey Travelers!
If youβve ever dreamed of strolling through a storybook alpine village and waking up in a peaceful woodland retreat β all without leaving the Southeast β this post is for you. I recently ventured into Helen, Georgia, a Bavarian-style Mountain town tucked into the Blue Ridge Mountains, and stayed at Hawks Bluff, one of the coziest Airbnb’s Iβve experienced.
From cobblestone streets and schnitzel to forest views and fireplace vibes, this trip had it all. Letβs dive in.
First Stop: Helen, Georgia

Where German charm meets Southern hospitality
As soon as I arrived in Helen, it felt like I had landed in a European snow globe. Designed in the 1960s to mimic a Bavarian alpine village, the entire town is packed with timbered buildings, gabled rooftops, and colorful painted balconies that give it a whimsical, fairytale vibe. Whether youβre into photo ops, comfort food, or quirky culture, Helen has something to offer.
πΈ What to Do in Helen
1. Stroll the Downtown Strip

The Chattahoochee River runs right through town, and itβs lined with charming shops, handmade goods, and riverside cafes. Tubers floating by with beers in hand? Yep β very on brand for Helen.
2. Eat Like Youβre in Europe
From schnitzel and sauerkraut to fresh-baked pretzels, this town serves up German favorites with Southern flair. I grabbed a hot pretzel that hit the spot after a day of exploring.

3. Ride the Georgia Mountain Coaster
Helen may not have a traditional rail station, but the mountain coaster more than makes up for it with adrenaline and views.

4. Take in the Nature
A short drive from town brings you to Anna Ruby Falls or Unicoi State Park β both perfect for a scenic hike and a reset in the woods.

π‘ Where I Stayed: Hawks Bluff Airbnb
A Woodland Escape Youβll Love
Just outside the buzz of Helen is Hawks Bluff β a peaceful Airbnb retreat tucked deep in the trees. It was the perfect place to unwind after wandering Helenβs cobblestone streets. Hereβs why it blew me away:
π² Forest Charm Meets Modern Design

The moment you step inside, youβre wrapped in cozy comfort. With a sage green accent wall, neutral textures, and a beautifully designed open layout, this spot strikes the perfect balance between cabin and chic. Itβs the kind of space that feels curated and lived in.
A giant flat-screen TV, ultra-comfy furniture, and warm lighting made it easy to relax whether I was watching a movie or sipping a local brew.
π₯ Fireplace Goals
One of my favorite corners was the fireplace nook. Framed by a live-edge wood mantle, modern sconces, and subtle decor (shoutout to the owl art), it felt like a built-in hug after a day outside.

π The Sunroom = Ultimate Forest Sanctuary
Tucked behind French doors, the sunroom became my favorite morning spot. Surrounded by tall windows and flooded with natural light, it felt like a treehouse designed for grown-up peace and quiet.

β Kitchen & Everyday Comforts
The kitchen was well-stocked and even had a coffee setup that made mornings easy. With bar seating and open flow into the living space, it was perfect for casual meals and conversation.

The Bedrooms and Bathrooms were surprisingly Huge!
the space was serene β minimal, comfortable, and restful with soft linens and calming wood tones, Both Bedrooms had king sized beds that were super comfortable, so much so that i have bought the same bed for my home. The bathrooms were on the large size and Linens provided were great quality, and shampoo and body wash is included in the shower.

The outside area is Very Relaxing as well, with a Hot tub, outdoor siting area and gas grill and even a Bamboo swing, the porch overlooks the Forest
