Cruising is already a great value for travel, with food, entertainment, and lodging all rolled into one price. But did you know that Guest Services can hook you up with even more freebies—if you know what to ask for?
Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned cruiser, here’s a list of 20 things you can get for free just by visiting or calling Guest Services on your cruise ship. (Hint: a little kindness and a smile go a long way.)
🛳️ 1. Souvenir Ship Maps or Daily Navigators
Perfect for scrapbooks or souvenirs, printed ship maps and daily schedules are often available on request—even if most of it is now digital.
🎉 2. Birthday or Celebration Buttons
Let the crew—and fellow cruisers—know you’re celebrating. You might even score some surprise treats along the way.
🧁 3. Complimentary Desserts or Treats
While you can’t always request extra dessert from Guest Services, they can put in a note with the dining room for a birthday cake or special delivery to your stateroom.
🥂 4. Free Room Service (on some lines)
Many cruise lines still offer free room service for select items like breakfast or snacks—just ask for a menu.
🛏️ 5. Pillow or Mattress Toppers
If your bed isn’t quite right, Guest Services can send someone to add a mattress pad or bring a softer pillow.
🍼 6. Nightlights or Baby Supplies
Traveling with a baby or toddler? Ask for a nightlight, diaper disposal bags, or even a crib.
🧼 7. Toiletries & Hygiene Kits
Forgot your toothpaste, razor, or feminine products? They’ve got you covered with small complimentary kits.
🌊 8. Seasickness Pills
Don’t pay extra at the onboard store—Guest Services typically provides motion sickness meds for free.
💌 9. Postcards or Stationery
Want to send a note home the old-fashioned way? Many ships offer cruise-branded postcards and envelopes.
🎮 10. Board Games or Playing Cards
Ask for games or decks of cards for an unplugged night in. Sometimes you can check them out from the library too.
🎭 11. Show Reservations
Did you miss booking a show on the app? Guest Services may have reserved seats or waitlist access.
📞 12. Wake-Up Calls
Old-school but effective—ask them to call you in the morning so you don’t miss that sunrise or shore excursion.
🧯 13. Extra Towels or Blankets
Too cold? Headed to the pool? No need to hoard towels—just ask for extras anytime.
🧊 14. Ice for Your Room
Want to chill a drink or soothe an injury? Ask Guest Services to deliver a bucket of ice to your cabin.
💳 15. Extra Key Cards
Need a second card for your travel buddy or a slot to keep the lights on? Ask for a duplicate.
👗 16. Laundry Bags or Ironing Service Info
Need a laundry bag or want to know when the next “fill-a-bag” promo is? Just ask—they’ve got the details.
🔌 17. Power Adapters (Loaners)
If you forgot your travel adapter, they may have a loaner—especially on international cruises.
📝 18. Comment Cards & Feedback Forms
Want to shout out a crew member or make a suggestion? They love getting passenger feedback—and sometimes reward it.
⛑️ 19. Medical Assistance Info
Not an emergency but want to speak to a nurse? Guest Services can help arrange a visit to the medical center or advise on options.
🕵️ 20. Lost & Found Services
Lost something? Drop by. They keep a surprisingly good record and can often reunite you with your items.
Bonus Tip: Ask Nicely, Be Grateful
Cruise staff work incredibly hard—so be polite, patient, and say thank you. A friendly request often goes further than you’d think.
