My Weirdest Travel Habits (That Actually Work)

A little weird goes a long way when you are on the move.

Everybody travels a little differently. Some people wing it. Others plan like they are leading an expedition to Mars. Me? I have developed a set of oddball travel habits that raise eyebrows—but also raise the comfort level.

They might sound quirky, but they make every trip smoother, cleaner, and, yes, tastier. So here it is the official list of travel weirdness I swear by.

🧴 1. I Always Pack Poo-Pourri

It might not be on your packing list, but it is always on mine. When you are sharing close quarters—like cruise cabins or cozy hotel rooms—you do not want to leave behind “souvenirs.” A quick spritz of Poo-Pourri and it is like your bathroom just did yoga in a lavender field. You’re welcome, travel companion.

🧼 2. I Sanitize the Remote, the Phone… and Anything That Looks Suspicious

I walk into a hotel room like I am conducting a CDC inspection. Remote? Sanitized. Phone? Wiped. Light switches? Hit ‘em. Door handles? Zapped. I once wiped down a coffee tray like I was defusing a bomb.

And do not even get me started on airplanes. I sanitize the tray table, seatbelt buckle, armrest—heck, if someone sneezes two rows back, I consider Purelling the air. I do not fly first class, but I disinfect like I do.

👔 3. No Iron, No Stay

Here is my red flag: no ironing board. I do not care how plush the pillows are—if I cannot press a shirt, I am out. Wrinkled clothes kill my vibe. Crisp collars and smooth shorts are the travel look. If I wanted to look disheveled, I would stay home in sweatpants.

🥪 4. I Bring Mayonnaise Packets to Make a Breakfast Sandwich at the Hotel Buffet

Judge me if you must, but I like a complete breakfast. That means eggs, sausage, toast, and—you guessed it—a smooth swipe of mayo. I travel with packets like some folks carry hot sauce. Hotel buffet chefs have even asked, “Do we offer that?” No, sir. That is custom. That is pro level.

😴 5. White Noise or Bust

Even when I am surrounded by real ocean waves on a cruise ship, I crank up my white noise app like I am sleeping through a hurricane. Karaoke night two decks up? I do not hear a thing.

🎒 6. Ziploc Bags Are My Secret Weapon

Do you think Ziplocs are just for sandwiches? Please. They are my travel MVPs. I use them for snacks, cords, toiletries, wet swimsuits, emergency mini–ice packs—you name it. I once used one as a waterproof phone pouch at a waterfall. It was not cute, but it worked.

📸 7. I Take Photos of Everything—Not for Instagram, for Sanity

My camera roll is 70% practical. Parking spot? Snapped. Passport page? Got it. Luggage? Yes, just in case it takes an unscheduled detour. I have even photographed my hotel room number, so I do not end up trying my key card in a stranger’s door. Again.

💼 8. I Unpack Completely—Even on a Two-Night Trip

Some people live out of their suitcases. I treat every hotel like I am moving in. Clothes in drawers, toiletries lined up like a CVS shelf, shoes organized like I am opening a pop-up boutique. It keeps me sane and cuts down the time spent digging through a bag like I am on a treasure hunt.

🌬 9. I Bring a Rechargeable Fan (Because I Like a Breeze, OK?)

Hotel A/Cs are unpredictable. Cruise cabins can feel like you are sleeping in a storage locker. Enter: my trusty rechargeable fan, aka Breezy. She is compact, powerful, and doubles as a noise machine. Bonus: if you point it just right, it gives you a Beyoncé hair-blow moment. Iconic.

🧭 10. I Walk the Hotel Like I am Scouting for Mission: Impossible

Before I unpack, I am exploring the place like I am casing the joint. I find the ice machine, vending area, exits, laundry room, and breakfast zone before most guests even find the elevator. Some people call it weird—I call it strategic living.

😎 Final Thought: Embrace Your Travel Weirdness

If loving mayo packets, portable fans, and disinfectant wipes is wrong, I do not want to be right. These oddball habits have made my trips better, easier, and a lot more me. So, embrace your quirks and bring them with you. Travel is personal—yours should be too.

Got a weird habit that works wonders on the road? Drop it in the comments or message me—let us swap secrets!

Take the Trip—be a little weird, stay prepared, and your Next Adventure is waiting.
