If you grew up humming the Eagles’ “Take It Easy,” then you know Winslow, Arizona, is famous for that one unforgettable line: “Standin’ on a corner in Winslow, Arizona…” But what is it really like to actually stand on that corner? Spoiler alert: it is a whole vibe — and yes, it is a small town with just enough charm to make you smile (and maybe a little confused).
Not Much Here… Except a Statue of Glen Frey and His Guitar

First things first: if you are expecting a bustling metropolis, well… you are in the wrong place. Winslow is small. Like, “everyone knows your name (and your business)” kind of small. But it has got personality. And the crown jewel? A statue of Glen Frey (one of the Eagles’ legendary bandmates), guitar in hand, standing right on that famous corner.
This statue alone is worth the trip if you are a fan. It is like a mini rock ‘n’ roll pilgrimage spot, minus the screaming crowds — mostly because, well, there are not that many crowds. But the quiet kind. The kind that lets you take a selfie without someone photobombing your moment of pure 1970s rock nostalgia.
The Gift Shop: Souvenirs, You Did not Know You Needed

Across the street to the statue is a gift shop that feels like the unofficial museum of Winslow’s claim to fame. Expect t-shirts, mugs, postcards, and more “Standin’ on the corner” gear than you could shake a cowboy hat at. I may or may not have bought a shot glass with the exact lyrics printed on it — because if I am gonna take it easy, I am gonna do it with Liquor in hand.
The gift shop clerk told me the best-selling item is “the humble yet proud Winslow postcard.” Because nothing says “I was here” like a piece of cardstock with a faded image of a street corner.
Small Town, Big Heart
Winslow might not have skyscrapers or fancy attractions, but it is a perfect snapshot of small-town Arizona charm. Friendly faces, a quiet main street, and the kind of slow pace that makes you realize you can survive without Wi-Fi for an hour or two.

You can grab a burger at a local diner, chat with a few folks who probably know your name by the time you leave and just soak up the vibe that inspired a rock classic. Not bad for a town that proudly claims it is “Standin’ on a corner” and nothing else.

Until next time, I am Brian — and remember to Take the Trip … because sometimes the best stories come from the smallest towns, where the statues are iconic and the shot glasses even more so.
