Sipping Through Austinburg, Ohio: A Day on the Wine Trail

When someone says “Ohio wine trail,” you might picture rolling hills dotted with vineyards and a vibe somewhere between rustic charm and lively tastings. Austinburg delivers exactly that — a perfect little escape to sip, savor, and maybe even stumble (just a little) through some fantastic local wines.

Our day started with three stops that showcased the best of what the Austinburg Wine Trail has to offer: Cask 307, Rosabella Winery, and Ferrante Winery. Since we prefer wines on the sweeter side, we focused our tastings on those delicious, fruit-forward options — and each stop did not disappoint.

First Stop: Cask 307

Cask 307 was our first tasting and it immediately set the tone for the day: laid-back, friendly, and packed with personality. The space is warm and inviting, with a rustic vibe that made us want to settle in and taste all the sweeter wines they had on offer.

We also discovered their best homemade onion dip with fresh-cooked kettle chips — seriously, the perfect savory pairing for the sweeter reds and whites we sampled. And their delicious mushroom flatbread? Let’s just say it’s worth a detour all on its own.

The staff helped guide us to the sweeter side of the menu, and it was a great match for our taste buds.

Next Up: Rosabella Winery

Rosabella Winery brought a charming, cozy feel with a splash of Italian flair. Their sweeter wines were fruit-forward and perfectly balanced — exactly what we were after.

We especially fell for their blackberry wine, which we bought to take with us to dinner later that night at The Farmer, The Butcher, The Chef (which I reviewed in my post Quick Getaway And Big-Bite On Our Journey To Geneva On The Lake… (OHIO)). It paired perfectly with the meal and made the whole evening that much more memorable.

Last but Not Least: Ferrante Winery

Ferrante Winery closed out our day with style. Known for their award-winning wines, they also had a great selection of sweeter varieties that fit right into our tasting lineup.

Between the bold and the sweet, we found plenty to enjoy, and the vineyard views made it all the sweeter (literally). We left with a few bottles (okay, more than a few) and already dreaming of the next visit.

Until next time, I’m Brian — and remember to Take the Trip … because sometimes the best days are the ones spent swirling, sipping sweeter wines, and discovering new favorites along a beautiful wine trail.
