Take The Trip by Brian
If you’ve been following along on my cruise adventure aboard the Margaritaville at Sea Islander, you already know this trip was far from ordinary. We had mechanical issues, a hurricane change our route, and more surprises than I packed socks (and yes, I underpacked). But with all of that, this vacation gave me moments I’ll never forget.
So grab a margarita, kick back, and relive it with me. Here are my Top 5 Cruise Memories—the ones still playing on repeat in my head like “Cheeseburger in Paradise.”
1. The Day I Met My Long-Lost Cousin

This memory doesn’t just sit at number one—it owns the spot. On a ship full of strangers, I met family I never knew I had. Bob and Kencis, you turned this from a vacation into a family reunion I didn’t even know I needed. We ate together, adventured together, and laughed like we’d been doing it for decades. You can’t buy a moment like that—not even in the gift shop.
Brian’s Quote of the Trip:
“Some people book a cruise to escape. I booked a cruise and found family.”
2. The Island Tour in Roatan, Honduras

Roatan greeted us like a postcard come to life: turquoise waters, green mountains, and warm island smiles. We booked an island tour with Daniel Johnson’s Monkey & Sloth Hangout, and yes—I lived my best life photographing a sloth up close and was used as a jungle gym by a group of crazy monkeys . We wandered local shops, learned island history, and drank local beers in the middle of the jungle.
Lesson learned: If you can book with Daniel Johnson’s tour ask for Diana she will give you the best tour ever.
3. The Hot White Party: Dancing Like No One Was Filming (But They Probably Were)
Picture this: a sea of white outfits, music pumping, lights flashing, and me dancing like a blender on low speed—awkward but determined. The Hot White Party brought the ship to life. I don’t know if it was the DJ, the ocean breeze, or the margaritas, but I felt unstoppable. If you saw a guy living his best life on that dance floor, yes, that was me. No autographs, please.
4. Our Unexpected Hurricane Re-route
Was it stressful? Yes.
Was it disappointing? Not really!
Did we still make the best of it? Absolutely.
When Mother Nature says, “You’re not going there,” you listen. Our itinerary changed, plans shifted, and we rolled with it like seasoned sailors (or at least like people determined to still eat and drink well). And honestly? The detour gave us extra memories, more laughs, and stories that will outlive any perfect-weather itinerary.
5. The Food: Every Bite, Every Sip, Every Repeat
From the tasty Burgers to Dining room dinners and poolside tacos, the Islander offered a whole menu of moments. My highlights:
Cheeseburger in Paradise – because how do you not love a great fresh cooked burger. Key Lime Pie – tart, sweet, and capable of solving at least 70% of life’s problems. Boat Drinks – smooth, tropical, and probably responsible for my dance moves at the Hot White Party.
This ship didn’t just feed me—it fueled the fun.
Final Thoughts
This cruise wasn’t perfect. But life isn’t perfect, vacations aren’t perfect—and sometimes that’s where the magic grows. I came for a getaway and left with new stories, new laughs, and new family.
And that, friends, is why we Take The Trip.
Brian’s Tip of the Trip
If something changes your plans, don’t let it change your joy.
The best memories are often unplanned, unexpected, and unbelievably meaningful.
