Places I’ve Been That I Wouldn’t Go Back To (And Why That’s Okay)

Travel isn’t about loving every destination. Sometimes it’s about realizing what doesn’t fit your style — and that’s just as valuable. These places weren’t all bad, and I don’t regret visiting them. But if I’m being honest? I wouldn’t rush back.

This is just my experience. Yours may be completely different — and that’s the beauty of travel.

Jamaica – A Little Too Much, All the Time

Jamaica has incredible scenery, beautiful beaches, and a culture that’s full of life. But for me, the constant aggressiveness took away from the experience.

Being approached nonstop — whether it was vendors, drivers, or people trying to sell tours — made it hard to relax. I never felt unsafe, just on edge. When you’re always saying “no thank you,” it gets exhausting, and vacation shouldn’t feel like work.

I’m glad I saw it. I just didn’t feel the pull to go back.

St. Kitts – Beautiful, But Hard to Ignore

St. Kitts has natural beauty and friendly people, but one thing really stuck with me: the trash. In many areas, it felt like garbage was everywhere — along roads, near neighborhoods, even in spots that should have been stunning.

It made the island feel sad instead of relaxing. It’s hard to fully enjoy paradise when you’re constantly noticing what’s broken or neglected.

I wanted to love it more than I did.

Paris, France – Romance at a Premium Price

Paris is iconic. The landmarks are incredible, the history is unmatched, and yes — the food can be fantastic. But for me, the experience was overshadowed by rude interactions and high prices.

Between feeling rushed, ignored, or talked down to, and paying premium prices for things that didn’t always feel premium, the magic wore off quickly. I don’t need over-the-top friendliness everywhere I go, but Paris felt more cold than charming.

Once was enough.

What These Places Taught Me

Every destination on this list taught me something important: travel is personal. A place can be stunning, famous, and beloved by millions — and still not be right for you.

And that’s okay.

Travel isn’t about agreeing with everyone else. It’s about figuring out what makes you feel relaxed, inspired, and excited to explore more.

Brian’s Tip 🧳

If a place doesn’t click with you, don’t force yourself to love it just because it’s popular. One “meh” trip helps you appreciate the great ones even more — and guides you toward destinations that truly fit your travel style.

Because the best trips aren’t about where everyone says you should go… they’re about where you want to return.
